ABOUT ABOUT

Four years ago, in a gorgeous Hillsborough home, I had the honor of hosting Megan Keely and John Elliott for what still rates as my largest house concert with 100 attendees. Megan and John met that night for the first time as co-performers, and little did I know I was playing matchmaker, for the two now are very much in love. So here in 2018 we are recreating that evening in my smaller San Rafael home, but with twice the love as it's right around Valentine's Day. What could be sweeter?!

Megan Keely’s sound is influenced by an amalgam of soul, jazz, and folk, and she puts on a show that is teeming with rich musical sensitivity and delicate emotion. Her style draws on an eclectic range of soul, jazz, and folk influences including Billie Holiday, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Caetano Veloso, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, and Tom Waits. Megan lives in San Francisco and plays regularly with her brother on upright bass, her father on guitar and trumpet. When joined by her family, their instruments melt together naturally, leaving plenty of space for the music to breathe. Frequently referred to as one of San Francisco’s most promising folk darlings on the rise, Megan gives a performance that is not to be missed. You can hear samples of her music here.

A person said: “If you have never heard a John Elliott song before, I’m sorry you’ve been deprived for this long.” Born and raised in Minnesota and now living in California, John Elliott has been releasing albums and performing in every type of venue you can imagine since 2006. His songs have been prominently heard on "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill," and "Californication" (a co-write with Gregory Alan Isakov and J Wagner). He has been featured in PASTE Magazine, on NPR and on Neil Young's "Living With War" website. His music has a cult-like international following and artists worldwide cover his songs. You can hear his music anywhere and everywhere if you're in the right place at the right time: on the radio, TV, and internet; in cars and around campfires. John remains an independent, unsigned and unaffiliated artist and he is proud of that fact. He continues to make a living and build a dedicated following the old fashioned way: one new believer at a time. You can hear samples of his music here.

The cost is $20 per person. All money goes directly to the artists! Be sure to bring extra cash with you as both Megan and John will have CDs for sale.

As is custom with house concerts, please bring a beverage, appetizer or dessert to share. But please, NO RED WINE to save my carpets from that after-show blush!

I am posting this event to more than one group so be sure to buy your ticket early to guarantee your seat(s)!
