Join us in June for a special Songwriters-in-the-Round where local musicians speak about their craft and the stories behind their music. UPDATE: Larkin Gayl and Chris Haugen have unfortunately had to cancel, but Damond Moodie is still on board and we have added the talented Kendra McKinley and Owen Roberts to the bill.
Kendra McKinley moved to San Francisco in January 2013. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter likes to explore different mediums with her music, and she performs as a front woman with a rotating cast of musicians. She describes her songwriting as a fusion of “psychedelic chamber pop, bossa nova and Tin Pan Alley.” You can listen to Kendra here.
Damond Moodie is one of my favorite local musicians. Based in Oakland, he's shared the stage with alternative acts The Fixx, 311, and Smashmouth, Neo-Soul artist Goapele and Hip-Hop Artist The Grouch. Listen to Damond belt out the National Anthem at the A's game here.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Bay Area lumber yards, Owen Roberts' music has been described as "visceral" (San Francisco Chronicle), "perfectly Californian" (KQED), and "explosive" (NBC San Diego). As frontman and songwriter for the Berkeley-based band Shady Maples, Roberts has toured the coasts as a solo artist and band leader. You can listen to Owen's new EP here.
